Continuing enhancements to the Plum VoiceXML platform are constantly improving call quality, performance and reinforcing application reliability.
Plum supports VoiceXML 2.1 on both its developer site and production hosting site. In addition, Plum ships software and turnkey VoiceXML IVR systems that offer VoiceXML 2.1 support. In doing so, Plum Voice continues to enable versatile deployment of best of breed automated telephone solutions for the enterprise.
Version 2.1 of the VoiceXML standard further solidifies VoiceXML as the unparalleled standard for creating telephony applications. With a broad base of support, VoiceXML enables platform-independent development and deployment of all types of telephony applications. Developers can use web-oriented programming techniques to control and automate inbound or outbound calls over all types of telephone lines (analog, TDM, ISDN, VoIP, etc.). Enhancements offered by the VoiceXML 2.1 specification enable a reduction in the time spent to create data-driven applications, and further enhancements to call control. Specific feature enhancements of the VoiceXML 2.1 standard to note:
- Supervised blind transfer - The transfer capability of VoiceXML has been enhanced to support supervised blind transfers. Both Plum's hosted and onsite solutions take advantage of this capability to lower enterprise telecom costs while ensuring seamless integration between IVR applications and live call center agents.
- Enhanced data transfer/web services integration - VoiceXML 2.1 incorporates a "data" tag that facilitates initiation of remote queries and posts of data while maintaining the flow of a VoiceXML script. Combined with other enhancements, such as the "foreach" tag, developers may now create data-driven call scripts with far less programming than was required using VoiceXML 2.0, or other IVR programming paradigms.
